Jambmaths question:
In a survey of 50 newspaper readers, 40 read champion and 30 read Guardian. How many read both papers
Jamb Maths Solution:
$\begin{align} & \text{let }C\text{ be the set of those read Champion newspapers} \\ & \text{let }G\text{ be the set of those read Guardian newspapers} \\ & n(\xi )=n(50),\text{ also }n(C\cup G)=50 \\ & n(C\cup G)=n(C)+n(G)-n(C\cap G) \\ & 50=30+40-n(C\cap G) \\ & n(C\cap G)=20 \\ & \text{20 read both newspaper} \\\end{align}$
