Jambmaths question:
Tade bought 200 mangoes at 4 for ₦2.50. 30 out of the mangoes got spoilt and the remaining were sold at 2 for ₦2.40. Find the percentage profit or loss.
Option A:
43.6% loss
Option B:
35% profit
Option C:
34.4% profit
Option D:
28% loss
Jamb Maths Solution:
$\begin{align} & \text{Cost of the mangoes }=\frac{200}{4}\times N2.50=N62.50 \\ & \text{30 got spoilt, so Tade had to sell 70 oranges} \\ & \text{He sold 2 for N2}\text{.40} \\ & \text{The total selling price }=\frac{70}{2}\times N2.40=N84 \\ & \text{Profit}=N84-N62.50=N21.5 \\ & \text{percent profit }=\frac{\text{profit}}{\text{cost price}}\times 100 \\ & \text{percent profit}=\frac{21.5}{62.50}\times 100=34.4 \\\end{align}$
