A chord is drawn 5cm away from the centre of a circle of radius is 13cm. Calculate the length of the chord.
Jamb Maths Solution:
$\begin{align} & \text{Using pythagoras theorem} \\ & {{13}^{2}}=A{{B}^{2}}+{{5}^{2}} \\ & A{{B}^{2}}={{13}^{2}}-{{5}^{2}}=144 \\ & AB=\sqrt{144}=12 \\ & AC=2\times 12cm=24cm \\\end{align}$
